Stephen Palise, 73, of Crescent Head, will be remembered as a true character — a funny, free-spirited “ratbag” who loved a laugh and made sure everyone around him was smiling.

He had a big heart and spent many years caring for others, including his work with people with disabilities and at Kempsey District Hospital. Helping people came naturally to Stephen.

Family meant everything to him. He shared a special bond with his niece Samantha and her family, and some of his happiest times were spent together playing Yahtzee or Scrabble, having a joke, and just enjoying life.

Stephen loved the simple things — a day at the Crescent Head Country Club watching the horses, the odd bet, a swim in the creek, playing his guitar, or cheering on the Rabbitohs. He also never said no to a handful of lollies.

He had a real soft spot for birds and formed a special friendship with a wild King Parrot (and plenty of others) at his niece’s home — something that brought him a lot of joy.

Stephen will be remembered for his humour, his positivity, and his knack for always finding the good in any situation. Young at heart and full of life, he leaves behind many great memories and plenty of smiles.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
